Sowmiya (DOB: 2/2/19) is an active and cheerful girl whose smiling face reflects her joyful nature. She studies with interest, and her favorite subject is Tamil, where she also maintains neat handwriting. She enjoys playing games like kho-kho with her friends during her free time. Drawing is one of her favorite activities, and she often draws birds and fruit. She likes eating chicken biryani and mangoes, and loves to place jasmine flowers in her hair. She also loves playing with her pets: cats, dogs, and parrots. Sowmiya shares a close bond with her younger brother and cares for him dearly. Sowmiya lives with her family in a small one-room house with an asbestos roof. It is lacking basic facilities such as a proper toilet, drainage, and water. Her father works as a mason in a distant city and visits the family only once a month. Her mother works as a daily laborer in a shoe factory and earns about $3 a day. The family is burdened by debts of over two thousand dollars, and her father works hard to repay them. When her parents are away at work, Sowmiya’s grandmother takes care of the children and supports the family. Despite these challenges, the family strongly desires that Sowmiya receive a good education so she can pursue her dreams of becoming an automobile engineer.
