Dhanyasri (12/22/19)

Dhanyasri (DOB: 12/22/19) is a cheerful and curious child who dreams of becoming a doctor when she grows up. In her free time, she enjoys dancing, which brings her joy and confidence. Dhanyasri lives with her mother, a single parent and the family's sole provider. She works as a daily-wage laborer under the government’s assured 100-day employment program, earning a minimum wage for underprivileged women. When she goes to work, Dhanyasri is cared for by her aged grandmother. Whenever there is no work, the child’s mother stays home to care for both Dhanyasri and her elderly mother. The family lives in a modest house with a palm-leaf roof and a concrete floor. The side walls are made of brick with a mud finish, and the house has limited electricity. A small stream runs behind their home, and during heavy rains and floods, water seeps into the house, making life extremely difficult. During such times, the family is often forced to stay in relief camps. Dhanyasri’s father passed away a few years ago. Since his loss, the family has struggled to meet daily needs without a stable income. Dhanyasri misses her father deeply, and her mother continues to carry the emotional and financial burden alone. The family sincerely hopes that Dhanyasri can be enrolled in the childcare program, where she will receive proper care, education support, and encouragement in a safe environment.
